  • As the label name and track titles might suggest, this ep is aimed at the dancefloor, although the way it gets there is an adventuresome route. As far as labels, the German imprint Manic is undoubtedly on the obscure side of things although Exotic Intercourse from the first ep did appear on a Fairway cd comp and shouldn't be totally unfamiliar to acid trance afficionados. Maelstrom, however, is where the deep end gets a test run.

Start off with an original mix of the title track - midtempo acid trance, a solitary nondescript bassline joined halfway thru by a well written reverberated dark 303 line that has character and depth. The second track on the A side, Override, sounds like it wants to go places, yet whenever it gets interesting it leaves one uninspired. Turn to the B side for Agony, which, on the other hand, is an interesting mixture of water and wildlife sounds interspersed with some 4x4 techno rhythms. Which brings us to the conclusion, Maelstrom remix...

and as far as 4AM peak time acid trax...this one is right up there. Starts out innocuous enough utilizing elements from the first mix but after a couple mins thru that is where the similarities end. A couple female moans, a few percussion progressions, and some raw 303 builds later, yeah gimme some acid and i'll be laid the fck out man...true 303 artistic talent on display here.
